No puedo ser objetivo porque, ahora mismo, estoy usando unos controladores gráficos privativos y Beta de nVidia. Es posible que la versión final ofrezca incluso más rendimiento.
Aparentemente, AIGLX es tan rápido como Xgl. Beryl ofrece muchos más efectos disponibles que Compiz, como efectos para simular translucencia con difuminación, más animaciones, etc., y todos ellos activados a la vez pueden causar estragos a mi pobre procesador (y también a mi tarjeta de vídeo).
Es lindo ubuntu con esos chiches, solo tengo una pregunta:
¿Que theme de gnome usas? yo quiero tener la barra del menú y la barra de tareas igualita!! 🙂
Thank you for providing a beatiful screen shot of Ubuntu. Can you please tell me what Beryl is? I looked up Beryl on Google and the Beryl Project web site says that the hard drive crashed and I can’t find more info.
Beryl makes the Ubuntu Edgy desktop look gorgeous. I have an Lenovo – IBM Thinkpad with Edgy now running on it. I would love to give it a polish with Beryl (the Terminal application looks like Mac OS X Terminal with semi-transparency). It all looks great.

By the way, what do you think of this idea? I have the idea to buy a MacBook Core 2 Duo and then to run Ubuntu Edgy on the MacBook Core 2 Duo. I think it might run faster than Mac OS X on the MacBook, true? Core 2 Duo is 64-bit, right? Does Ubuntu have a 64-bit option to run on MacBook Core 2 Duo?

Beryl is a fork of the old Compiz, the compositing window manager for Xgl and AIGLX. Beryl implements a window manager and uses all the fancy effects that Xgl/AIGXL support to do transparency, shadows, alpha blending, 3D and so on. It’s pretty cool. If you search on Google Video or YouTube for Xgl, you will be able to see Xgl in action. It’s quite impressive and beautiful, by the way.

With respect to the other questions, I have a MacBook Pro and it runs Ubuntu nicely. AFAIK, the Core 2 is a 64-bit CPU (while the old Core is not). There are versions of Ubuntu for 32-bit processors and versions for 64-bit. I’ve only experience with AMD 64-bit processors, but I understand Intel Core 2 duo (and EM64T processors) is instruction- and register-level compatible with AMD so you shouldn’t have any problems in running the 64-bit version of Ubuntu on your MacBook.
Hey guys… just wanted to let you know I’ve had no luck booting or installing 64bit Ubuntu on a Macbook C2D. As soon as the kernel begins to boot, the system locks up. Tried 64-bit Gentoo as well… no dice. Fedora seems to work fine though.

tengo ubuntu 6.10 (i386) en un macbook core2duo con teclado anglosajón, aunque lo hago andar en spanish… quisiera saber cómo puedo configurarlo para utilizarlo completamente. con el tutorial oficial https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MacBook funcionan la emulación de right button y alt gr, pero no puedo hacer andar la tecla fn y faltan algunos caracteres. ¿qué onda con backspace/delete? espero no resultarle molesto. desde ya, muchas gracias!

hola necesito una guia tuya por favor para saber como instalar el Vista Transformation Pack 6 (o superior si la hay) o paquete de efectos graficos similar en la version 8.04 (hardy heron), porque voy a instalar ese sistema operativo, deseo mucho esos efectos del windows vista en la proxima maquina que usare, me dejaste sorprendido con esta imagen

hola. primero deseo saber detalladamente como instalo todos essos efectos de windows vista en ubuntu 6.10 por favor y mis preguntas son: ¿se podra lo mismo en ubuntu 8.04? y ¿utilizo acaso el Vista Transformation Pack 6 es este caso? me gusta mucho, ¡¡¡mas que el propio vista!!! probe la distro 8.04 en modo live user (sin instalar) en mi ordenador ya obsoleto y funciona excelentemente mas que windows xp por lo que tendre que mejorar un poco, saludos desde mexico!!!
